there is two systems that kick in within the challenge.
1. the challenge - 1 TK flight to extend to 12 months and 15.000 TK miles to extend to 24 months
2. the regular status extensions (25.000 miles in first year after reaching gold status or 37.500 miles in the first two years after reaching gold status)
the challenge itself gives a maximum of two years status.
the requalification extends the status.
within year 1 you can reach the goals of the challenge and the goal of requalification.
e.g. you start the match on Oct 1 2024 - you get the status until Jan 31 - unless you fly 1 TK international flight -> extension of status to Sep 30 2025,
if you reach 15.000 status miles your status is extended to Sep 30 2026.
in case you reach 25.000 status miles (* alliance) until Sep 2025 you will get the "elite protection flag set" which means you have requalified and status will be extended further two years alfter the expiration on Sep 30 2026.
What doesn't work is to collect 25.000 star alliance status miles (not reaching 15.000 TK status miles) within year one. Although the regular requalification would kick in, status will be demoted because you didn't meet the challenge goals. So you need 15.000 TK status miles within the 25.000 status miles to get the deal done.
